Question for ya, ladies...Seems like more of you would rather not make cards and find it easier to just buy what you need.
I'm curious. I know you have the supplies, because you use the same stuff as you would for scrapping (yes, you can even do a digital card) so...
why would you choose not to make a card?
Please share with me what it is; I promiss not to judge or make negative comments...Ok, so you know I can mess with ya, but honestly, I just would like to know...

Your and Mel's cards intimidate me........how's that for honesty?

Lynn, that was a sweet answer, but my style and Mel's are only two of many. Just like with layouts, everyone has a style.
I see cards that some girls make that blow me away and if I let it, I wouldn't make another card again after see them!!..
Thank you for answering... :

Well, I guess I am just too stingy with my products. LOL I really don't want to use anything on a card that someone will most likely just throw away if I can use it on a layout, know what I mean? If I ever do make cards, it's always with scraps...I guess no one around here that I could send a card to (with the exception of a few scrappy friends) really understands and appreciates the fact that it is handmade, so I guess I'd just rather spend my time and products on layouts and not something they are just going to throw in the trash. That's my reasoning, anyway...

I procrastinate until I don't have the time to make one for said event...
I too, sometimes hate the thought of someone throwing it away...
I do make cards, just not for every event...I make my Christmas cards, I make cards for my mom...scrappy friends...

Thanks, Jenny and Lisa. I really do know what you mean about the 'throwing them away'. So that you know..I keep every handmade card that is sent to me. yeah, I have a stash right there if I should ever run out of my own..

Roe, good question and one I can easily answer.
If I receive a handmade card, I keep it. So it adds to my "stuff" I just can't throw away. Maybe down the road I will use something on that card, but most likely, I will just keep it, in honor of the person who took time to create.
I DON'T make cards, as a rule, because I don't want to spend time on something that will wind up in the trash. Because what I create - for the most part - isn't something for landfills. It's personal. So I don't make them, unless I think someone will keep it - or because I want to go that extra bit to say I care by putting myself more into it. Then if they toss it, at least they knew I took a bit of extra time.
I can't do that for everything. Just now and then.
Make sense?
I also prefer using my stuff on pages, but that's not as big a deal as what I've already said.

for two reasons:
1 - i forgot about that holiday/bday and don't have time to make one
2 - i like the card and feel like i could make one similar myself (as a template)

I am just plain too lazy. That might be because I procrastinate of just plain forget... or just because I dont want to stand there to make it.
There are a handful of people I do make cards for... my MIL, some friends, Will... but thats about it
I keep all the cards I have been given that are handmade. I love them... only other cards I keep are sentimental ones and all the cards Will has ever got me.

in addition to what you all said above (especially that one about someone just throwing it in the trash) I like a nice meaningful verse inside the card. especially if it is for someone very close and/or going thru a difficult time. I've have recently bought some stamps with some verses that make my cards a little more meaningful I hope. And maybe will start using them more. I love to make them, just don't seem to have the perfect one when card sending is called for. Since I've been in several card swaps(and accumulated a bunch), I'm gonna try real hard to start using them.

Funny, until reading this thread I never once considered anyone throwing away the card. :sad Probably because I think I have every card ever given to me or my family. I am really bad!
I do make many of the cards I give. Honestly, I am usually too cheap to go out and spend $2-$4 on a card, when I have the stuff to make my own, and homemade cards are just a little bit more personal. But I admit sometimes, if it's the last minute I will go and buy a card.

Roe, you got me into making handmade cards. I too have never thought of anyone throwing a handmade card away, I cherish my cards.
A couple of years ago I bought my card last minute and let me tell ya, she let me know that she preferred the handmade ones. Another special memory for me....before my aunt lost her battle with cancer, I would send her a card or two every month and she would rave to my Mom about how much she loved them and how much everyone that came to visit her loved them...it made me feel good that I made her happy for a time. Roe, I have you to thank for that as you are the one who told me to jump in and do it and I'm so glad I did :
I just made two cards over the weekend but haven't posted them yet.

Thank you ladies for you honest and open responses. I know in sending cards to some of my family, they would just comment how nice and shake their head as if I had nothing else to do but make cards..oh well...
If any of you should receive a card from me, I wouldn't mind if you took it apart and used what you can for a card or layout of your own. Hey, consider it something a little extra.. ..
Rita, that is so sweet of you to thank me. Because of what you did in sending cards to your aunt, you know how good it feels to do that little something special...

No one has mention this: it's kinda fun to stand at the card racks and just read them, esp the funny ones! It's a nice little outing (except for the trashy ones, which I try to avoid!)

Marlene, I remember when I use to buy cards reading the cards and taking forever to find the one that I wanted to give!! Guess when I have nothing to do I can go and read cards.. ..

Roe, you sent me the first handmade card and I remember how special I felt and still to this day how nice it is to receive them.

I love all the handmade cards I get, and I keep them out near my scrap desk for inspiration, not just for cards, but for scrapping layouts as well!

I don't throw cards away either...especially beautiful hand crafted ones. I really just don't send very many cards...mostly just Christmas ones. And birthday....when I remember.

For me anyways, I have tried making cards and can't seem to design anything pretty with such a small space. :sad

The cards I make are very simple. I make them because I hate shopping and can't choose a card at the store. I read them all and can't decide .
I keep all the handmade cards I receive. I send handmade cards to people who I know will appriciate the work put into them.
