PSE 3.0

Ok, I know a long time ago I went down this road, but I am wanting to give it a try again.  Before my mom passed away, she has just bought PSE 3.0 which was new at the time. I have had it all this time and just downloaded it to my laptop. I can see how this is going to be super useful, but it's overwhelming!  !

So, I am just playing to see if I can get anything.  I am finding the layering to be a bit tricky.  Also, I downloaded some cute elements and I am wondering how I will be able to add those buttons, brads and ribbons without the black background?

I have a lot to learn!

there's a real simple way to look at it.

"layers"

they are jsut as they sound. when you look to the right you see all your "layers". the one on the bottom is your bottom "layer" and the top one is the "layer" that sits on top of everything else. think of it like layering your sandwich.

the bottom layer is your bread, then your, meat, tomato, cheese.

if you want to put your tomato on top of your cheese, simply hold down the left mouse button on top of the tomato and drag it above the cheese (you'll see a hard black line) then let go.

i hope that makes some kind of sense. that's how I had to look at the "layers" so it made sense to me.

every time you add a button, brad, embellie, paper.....you will add a new "layer" ( a new addition to your sandwich). If you want the button over the ribbon, jsut drag that "layer" up until you see a hard black line right above the ribbon.

let us know if you need any help. i have PSE 4.0 and i beleive someone has 5.0 or 6.0. so we cann all help.

Erin, there are tutorials all over the place.  Now the only problem you may run across is that your version is older. But lots of people do use older versions.

Here is one I just found, just for 3, covering layers (I love Paula's sandwich analogy!)  http://www.webworksite.com/working_with_layers.shtml

I hope this will get you going.

I thought you were taking the photo editing class?  If so, there may be something very helpful there for you.  I know she is dealing with new versions, but if you simply do the pre-class stuff she gave to get set up, that should get you understanding some things.   I believe she talked about png files, which are the ones you are referring to when you mention buttons and such.  Do that preliminary stuff and see if that helps.

Thanks for the help, ladies!

I did take the class, but I haven't done anything with them yet. I have them in a folder to look at.  Maybe I should do that sooner rather than later!  Thanks for the link!

Definitely just do the preliminary, Erin.  Her lessons are short and sweet, and easy easy to follow!

Wish I wasn't going away so I could help you more!

Smart thinking, Marlene.  I am just one of those instant gratification girls.  I just want it to do what I want.

Found a book about digi scrapping with PSE 3 - it's super cheap because it's older. Might want to pick that one up.

I ordered Digital Scrapbooking for Dummies and Digital Scrapbooking with PSE 3.0 from Amazon the other day.  Should be in next week sometime.
