Make your own fill for letters and shapesI am going to direct you as if you have a digi paper you want to use as a fill for letters and/or shapes for this. If you are brave..you can even make your own patterns. This is for one letter at a time as you may want to switch out patterns and mix up your title.
Crop a paper you want to use, small patterns work best.
Open a new canvas of 1x1 inch
Copy and paste your pattern to that new layer
Go to EDIT and click DEFINE PATTERN
you can name the pattern if you like..it's no big deal when it asks for it.
You can either close this or leave it open, the program will take you back to where it is stored later.
Make a new canvas for your letter, use thick fonts to show off your pattern better.
Once you have your letter go to IMAGE and click MAGIC EXTRACTOR
this will open a new window with brushes on the left side.
Click ONLY FOREGROUND brush onto your letter. It will leave a dot...that's OK...Click OK
Now go to your MAGIC WAND tool on the left tool bar and click your letter, it should now be highlighted
Go to EDIT and click FILL SELECTION here is where you find your pattern..
click your pattern
your pattern will now fill the letter.
Merge Down and save as a gif......NOT a jpg or you will get a white background behind your letter.
Hope this is what you were wanting...have fun!!!

Sharon, if I had the same program, I know it would work...your instructions were perfect....
However, I tried to see if PSP would follow and I'm missing those commands that you mention...I'm sure there is a way to do it with my program..but...I'll save if for another time.. ..

I found it very interesting, and leaving me with some questions. Questions that are technical and certainly ignorant. YOu didn't say whether to do a transparent layer or white or what, I chose transparent. Each time I extracted I was told to simplify. I don't get all that stuff. But still got it all to work. The program froze up on me when I tried to do more than one letter at a time - don't know if that's possible, probably is. Should be, anyway.
So here is the result:
Now I wonder how to put an outline on the letters? The only way I know is to bevel. I am guessing there is a way .......
See, I really don't know what I am doing ....

Marlene, can't help you with all the steps, but I can tell ya the reason for hte freeze.
The program uses a lot of memory when you 'play around'. I was trying to do some stuff earlier and I notice that it was 'lagging'. When I closed up, it will tell me that I used a lot of memory and if I want to save what I did for next time. Of course not.. ..If I finished a project, I can save that, but I don't need to save whatever it is that is using so much memory.. ..
I still don't know what it is that actually causes this because sometimes, I don't get that message..

I will have to look at my program to answer these correctly BUT I am pretty sure when it asks to save you CAN save...just make sure you save in PDD format and choose the second setting (interlaced I think it is).
That saves it in layers so you can go back right where you ended.
Getting an out line, I will have to get back to you when I can play on my program. BEVELS will raise it and give it edges and shadows but not an outline.
Bogging down.....all I can say there is once I got my external drive and put all my digi and photos on it and OFF my PC, I quit having that problem . I can do so many canvas' in a row now and not have to shut down.
