June Recipe Challenge

June Recipe Challenge (aka May’s Build a Layout)
Yep, we are going to use the May Build a Layout Challenge for June as a recipe challenge!  Just go through the steps below.  If something isn’t clear, please ask or just take liberties as I am pretty flexible gal! RAK drawing to those who complete and post by June 30th.

*You can do the steps in any order you wish!

Step 1:  Gather and Begin!
Don't be intimidated by how long this step is.  It's a piece of cake!

You will need the following materials to start:

*at least 2 pieces of cardstock - 1 that will give your layout a nice pop of color; the other that is more muted or appropriate to put your pic on.

*2 pieces of pattern paper - coordinating with your cardstock (obviously)

*one large photo 5x7 (vertical) OR 2 3x5/4x6

*corner rounder

*Scallop punch or deco scissors that will give you that effect

*there will be more materials needed, but you will have them

Layer your cardstock

1) Take your "pop of color" cardstock. It will be the "base".

2) Round the corners ONE side of the cardstock - you pick left or right.

3) Take your second piece of cardstock (this will be the one you mount your picture on) and cut it down a little so that when you place it on the "base" cardstock you can see it as a border.

4) Corner round the same side of this cardstock as you did "base" cardstock. Remember to let the "base" cardstock show!

5) Use your scallop punch or deco scissors to make a border on the opposite side that you put the rounded corners on.

6)Adhere the cardstock papers together.

7) Watch for Step 2 coming soon!

Step 2:  Scallops, Stitches and More Layering, Oh My!

1)Take one piece of your pp and make a strip – maybe 2-3 inches wide so that it will run vertically down the page.

2) Adhere this to the side of your layout that has the scallops.  Basically you are creating a third layered effect (base pop cardstock, scalloped cardstock and now the pp).

3) Use stitching, rubon stitches or doodling on the edge of the pp that is on the  same side of the scalloped edge.

Step 3:  Oh yeah, we're getting busy!

1) Take another piece of pp and cut a strip about 2 inches (a bit smaller than the one you did above depending on how wide you made the pp strip in step 2that will run horizontally along your layout.  Don’t adhere this just yet.

2) Cut a heart, star or other shape you think would fit nicely for your photo.  It needs to be large enough to use as part of the title.

3) Place the heart, star or shape you just created on the your pp strip (remember it runs horizontal).  You will want to place this heart on the side of your layout that does NOT have the scallops and layering.

4) Create a title so that some of the letters or words are on the pp strip and some are on the star, heart or shape you made.

5)Embellish this title strip as you’d like – additional brads, ribbon, embellies, etc.

6) Don’t adhere this just yet.

Step 4: Picture Placement

Take your photo or photos and place them on your layout in the upper portion of your layout.  If you have a 5x7 vertical pic you can place it about ½ inch or ¾ inch from the top of your layout. If you have 2 horizontal 4x6 pics you will place them flush (on top of each other)  to each other and again ½ inch or ¾ inch from the top. You will want the pics to be a little more toward the side you did the layering (scallops). If you would like to mount your pics with a small border of pp or cs that is fine too.  Don’t adhere just yet.

Step 5: Corners!

You will make a photo corner.  Make it cute!  Layer, use the scallop bunch again, put bling on it, etc.  Whatever. You just need one and it will go on the top corner of your pic that is on the same side as your scalloped tri-layered edge.  Go ahead and put the corner holder on your photo.

Step 6:  Let’s stick some stuff down!

1) Adhere your photo about ½ inch or ¾ inches away from the top and a little more on the side of your scallops.
2)  Adhere your title horizontally under your photo – if you can leave a bit of space between the pic and the title.

Step 7: The end

Journaling strips.  Write or type our your journaling and place these in the upper corner of the “plain” side of your layout (opposite of the scallops).  If you can, have some of them overlap your photo.  Add any little finishing touches you’d like and share it with us!
