End of February AssignmentOk, it seems that there's not too much participation in the photo department. Oh, I know you are taking pictures, cuz what else would you do? I will slow things down - at least, i already have slowed things down!
I asked you to observe light. Light is pretty important, and fun to learn to take shots with the light on your side.
This is what I would like you to do. Go outside somewhere and find a place you can take a photo of where you can get in front, behind, and beside. That might be a tree, a bush, a willing child or spouse, a very still dog (nah, probably won't work), a mailbox, a pole, .... well I think by now you get the idea! Take a picture of that same item, once with the sun in front of it, then one with the sun behind it, then one with the sun beside it. Do this in the morning or late afternoon, not mid-day.
I will do the same. Don't change the settings on your camera. Take in auto, in fact. Then you can see how the light effects the item.
A very simple assignment.
Who's going to try it?
I am!

Yes, for your northwesterners, perhaps you should set a light inside somewhere and pretend it's the sun! Sorry about that! Hey, if you do take inside, turn off your flash. You are observing light and that will diminish any shadows.

Oh, adding, do this in the morning or the late afternoon,, not mid-day.

Sorry I have been out here lately Marlene, just a chain of events.
If I may, here is a shot with the sun behind the subjects. As you can see if have left a soft silhoutte of the family.

Awww, that's awesome, Ticia. Just judging from the side view of the third child, I bet that is Rhett's family?? He's in my class and I could nearly bet you money that's my boy:) I love that.
I tried this yesterday too. It was actually about 6pm so the sun was going down, but not set. I had it on auto so the flash went off. I never nailed it, but want to try again.

I took some more of the kids today and yesterday. Yesterday I clicked some shots about 6:00 so the sun was nearly set and the auto meant that the flash came on.
6pm direct sun behind bldgs:
4pm direct sun, but tree background:
(Of course I got some cute ones of Austin too;)

Take your time, just keep at it steady, Katt, and all. There's a lot to learn - and I am not even a step ahead of you all! So keep a steady pace, as much as you can.
Trisha, can you not tell you camera NOT to flash? I could with my other camera, but I guess not all do that. Good shots, showing what the light does.
Whenever taking a photo, light is a major consideration. It's something that can enhance or hinder. In fact, though I am no photo expert, light essential to consider in each shot. Where the sun is, how bright, where the light in the room is, etc.
We will take things one at a time and perhaps one day it will all come together!

Yes, I can tell it to NOT use flash, but I thought I was suppose to just put it on auto??

Yes, auto, with no flash. That way you can see what the light does to your photo. Does that make sense?
