DS vs SCAL

Does anyone have both?  I am trying to figure out which one I want to get.  I like the idea of SCAL cause it will cut just about anything I can find online, and I may never have to buy another cart again, but I am just not sure.

If you have either one, or both, could you please tell me what you Love/hate about the program??

Interested in the answers to this one...I go one a blog everyday...I think it's Frugal Crafter..and she uses both and gives directions to using both for diff projects she offers.........but, I think you are familiar with that one, Katt.

Yes, I read Lindsay's blog.  But it seems to me that she prefers SCAL.  I dunno, I was just wondering what other's thought.

What do you have invested in cartridges?  Remember, with the DS you can weld from all those cartridges you have including fonts and designs.  Also, what I use alot is the changing of the size to whatever I need which  means I can also change the look from that of the original design.

Personally, I would suggest you go with DS first.  You can get it cheaper than the SCA and you will not be sorry.  I keep saying I want SCA, but I get to do so much with DS and the cartridges I have, I don't miss SCA until I see something that is not in any of my cartridges....

You can cut clipart with SCA, so I'm thinking with those digital stamps I have, I can use SCA and Cricut to cut it for me instead of me cutting them out by hand. But, I keep putting it off because of the price..one day I'll get it...I've been saying that for months and months now....

Once I get SCA, then I want Inkscape.  Inkscape is free, but if I remember correctly, you need SCA to get it to Cricut.

This is what I did with Inkscape...it's Joe's silhouette

Great now I have to go and look up Inkscape to see if that is something I want.......

Oh, and Roe, In answer to your question, I have 4 font carts, George, Keystone, Cuttin up, and Mini monograms, and then I have 2 shape carts, Home Accents, and Graphically Speaking.

That's just what these companies love about us...they always come out with something a little better to make us want more. Ya know what? I'd bet you anything they have a lot of this stuff planned years ahead and just dole out a little bit at a time. It's not just the scrapping companies that do that tho. So I guess you just have to pick and choose what best suits your style of creating.

I am leaning towards DS.  Mainly because I know I can trust the product, because it is put out by ProvoCraft.  I downloaded the trial of SCAL, and I am just not very happy with the way it cuts.  It just sounds funny. Has anyone else tried the trial?  Just curious.....
vellumx

the trial will not cut without that cut line going through it....

They want you to play around with it, but not be able to cut anything until you buy it..yeah, they know what they are doing...

Lynn, I totally agree.  It does seem kinda strange that every 6 months there is something new.  If the industry doesn't watch it, they are going to fold like the auto industry..they are going to market themselves right out of business with too much flooding of products.  But...then again...there is always someone ready to buy....

Anyone we know, Roe......
