April Assignment

Ok, starting fresh and starting fun and easy!

TAKE A PHOTO FROM A DIFFERENT ANGLE THAN "NORMAL".  TRY A SLANT, OVERHEAD, UNDER, LOOKING UP, SIDEWAYS........ WHATEVER.

Just be different!

Go for it!  No special cameras/skills needed.  Just an eye for something new!

Post photos here in this thread!
GrammyScraps

That, I think I can do..
lisa9er

Thanks Marlene!! Will post some of these ASAP!!  So glad this forum, though not real active, will continue!!

That is Montgomery Montgomery.  Yes, that's his first and last name.  Lemony Snicket fans will get it.  He is a Green Cheek Conure.  He came quiet and easy going about three weeks ago.  He is now nippy and a bit squawky, and funny to watch.
scrappyshel

FUN challenge... and awesome pic too!
JustJenn

I can do this one!
Punkin

OH! I have really been noticing fun angles for pictures in layouts, online and such... i will do this one!
laticiaragle

Great challange Marlene and what a great shot. That is a very neat angle!
laticiaragle

Here are some out of the vault...

Sherry Scrapper

Yeah, I think I can do this one too!!
sister scrapper

I'm pretty sure I can take a different king of pic with my camera.
serene scrapper

Nice ones, Ticia!  See, those all are ones we each can do!

Looking forward to seeing what the rest of you do!
lisa9er

Love those ticia!! Esp the first one!!
laticiaragle

Thanks Marlene and Lisa...these are definately shots that we can all do. Looking forward to seeing what other angles you gals can come up with!
GrammyScraps

Ticia!!  I Love the one with the legs...very cute.
aunt e

I will be all over this like white on rice!
Love the photos shown already, Marlene and Ticia!
laticiaragle

Thanks Grammy and Erin...would love to see some from you sweeties as well.
vellumx

Marlene and Ticia...awesome shots!!..hmmm..well, let's see what I can come up with!!
aunt e

I went out tonight and the light was too low.  Bummer!  But I thought I would post what I took anyway.  There's always another day with some better light.

My front door wreath - blah

I took this picture of the birdfeeder by standing IN the bushes and getting down to the level of the top of the bushes.  Still not earth shaking...

Definitely need more practice!
vellumx

Erin, they aren't bad!!..at least you did something!!....
lisa9er

gonna take my camera out tomorrow...hoping for sunshine anyway...

here are a few from Christmas time that I took of the Bicentenial Tower at Dobbin's Landing, Lake Erie...

lisa9er

this one is kind of a diff angle...erin's barware/kitchen...

vellumx

wow Lisa, those christmas ones are so cool!!..love the 'barware'!!..
laticiaragle

Erin and Lisa way to go gals...those are all great ways to play around with angles....I just love seeing this stuff ladies!
GrammyScraps

haven't gotten a recent one...here is one I took of our State Capital..will do something else during the month.

vellumx

I took this photo last week after Joe told me there was a huge dragon fly on my porch screen.  I opened the door and took a side view of him.

aunt e

I love seeing these pictures! I'm of to grab my camera to take more. :)
aunt e

Another one I took this morning...

And this one doesn't really have an interesting angle, but I think it's pretty.  This was taken from my front porch.

GrammyScraps

Wow, Roe...that dragonfly is huge...wish there was something to get some perspective from.

Erin, love both of those but am especially drawn to the one of Chad's hands on the keyboard.
vellumx

cool shot of the keyboard/hands!!  Wow, what a gorgeous view you have!!

Lynn, let me see what I have..I took several shot so maybe there is one that will give you an idea...

What you see behind him is the siding and that is 3 1/2 inches..I just measured....Maybe to some of you that is not big, but Joe and I never saw one that big before!!..
GrammyScraps

Thankies, Roe...to me, that is huge!
lisa9er

fun shots ladies!!

I like that one of chad's hands!  HUGE dragonfly Roe! Lynn cool perspective of the capitol building!
laticiaragle

Ladies, you are rockin this house! I am so impressed at all of these!
serene scrapper

Wow, you all are totally rockin' with your pics!  Just that you are taking is terrific - every shot you take is more experience behind a camera.  Keep it up, and you are doing super.

Now, Roe, try to use your close-up setting on that critter.  See what that does.

Lisa, I love that structure, cool!  Nice pic of the marg glass, too.

Erin, what a lovely tree!

Lynn, the corner of that building, good angle.

Keep it up, everyone!
scrapnkitty

I am charging my batteries right now, and have a day off on Tuesday, we are going to the Nike employee store, then to either the Museum of science and industry or the children's museum.  Plenty of photo ops either way!
GrammyScraps

Ok...overload warning here...I went out on a teeny photoshoot yesterday. Couldn't do too much walking but still had fun...long time since I've done this. I took over 150 pics...these are just the ones I think fall into the category of the April challenge.

One of my fav photo subjects...our beautiful state capital...with spring thrown in..

Another on the capital grounds

And, another

The original Olympia Brewery

At Heritage Park  macro setting

A bench at the park..thought this angle made it more interesting.
serene scrapper

Those are terrific, Lynn!  I esp like the bench.
vellumx

awesome photos, Lynn..

marlene, I used my 55-200 lense for those shots, but I notice that when I try to take a photo a little too close, it will not focus and click.  I'm sure there is a way to override this and it may be just a simple auto focus thing.

I notice too that when I use the micro setting, I'm not getting as close as I would like and that too would not allow me to click.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..:)
vellumx

Any feedback on my question..?  I really would like to understand what is happening....

Sorry, sweetie, did not see this.

No, you cannot override if you are too close.  You need to back up.  The 55-200 lens cannot be that close.  If you want a close-up, you need to use your other lens.  Though you have a macro setting, you do not get true macro pictures.  You need a macro lens for this (Nikon's is called a Micro).

I am looking into this lens:  Nikon 35mm AF-S DX f/1.8 lens.  It works great with our entry level cameras, is only about a month old, and is supposed to be pretty nice.  My son seems to think so, anyway.  He doesn't have one, but saw it and thought it would be perfect for me.  It's about $200.  Not bad.  It has only one focal length, which may be frustrating, but it gives awesome pics.  Let's see if I can find samples: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/35mm-f18.htm  .  Scroll down to bottom for photos.

More than you wanted to know?  Told you I was obsessed!
vellumx

Marlene, never too much info!!..

So, from what I just read, ths lens is to take the place of the lens that came with the camera? Would I switch out for low light, or leave it on knowing it will work better in low light?

I was trying to understand why this lens instead of the 18-55..yeah, I need beginner language.....
aunt e

A pic of City Hall - I was hoping it would turn out better
GrammyScraps

I'm honestly thinking of getting another camera body so I don't have to keep changing lenses....this lens is one to think about, too.

Interesting photo, Erin...
serene scrapper

Roe - yes, you could use this lens instead of the 18-55.  But you will need to move your body to go back or come forward.  btw, you can get as close as a foot to your subject.  You shouldn't toss the other lens, tho.  Just keep this as your workhorse.  Peter has a 50mm - he doesn't even own the 18-55 anymore.  That's him, tho.

That lens is a low light lens.  F 1.8 which means it takes in light very quickly and well so you can take photos in low light.  I don't like flash photography that much, thus I would really like this lens.  Then you don't have to set your ISO too high or slow your speed down as much.  Higher ISO means more grain and slow shutter speed means more chance of blur.  Thus this lens is a good idea.

Now for me, it's a matter of convincing Jim that I really need that lens!

For you, just decide if that's what you want.

Lynn, even tho this is darn expensive, you may rather have an 18-200 lens (or 300).  If you can swing it, I'd get that one.

Ok, I have now exhausted my camera knowledge!
JustJenn

I took this pic of my son James and decided to scrap it.  So here is my pic on a layout.  I took it sitting on the ground.  I think it looks kinda cool.  I am gonna upload the pic because my layout looks blurry.

vellumx

my other lens is the 55-200 VR...

So, what you are saying is this new lens would be my pretty much all the time regular use lens?
vellumx

Ok, here are some photos I too today...I used the camera's b/w setting

I stood under the basketball net for this one

Ok, so special angel except I was sitting down....

scrapnkitty

Roe, I love both of those.  I wish I could see more of the back board on the basketball net though.  But it certainly has an interesting look from that angle.
vellumx

Katt, this is the original photo.  Guess I was focusing more on the net so I zoomed in as much as I could.  I also used the camera to crop the photo.

serene scrapper

Roe, those are very nice!  I love that you are out there, thinking about this and trying new stuff!  Since you do have digital, you can take lots and lots to get what you want.  Try that bb netting a few more times, changing your angle a little more, till you get the "perfect" shot, just for practice.  Beaue what you did is good, but you might be surprised at what other slightly different one is good, too.  KWIM?

Keep at it, girl!

As for the smaller lens, yes, you could use it most of the time.  But it would get some getting used to.  If you are happy with your currently lenses, then sit on this one for now.  I have the same as you, and do fine.  If I had the 35mm low light lens, I would definitely have to rethink what I do.  But I use my longer lens most of the time, by far.  But when I seriously want to get closer and am physically closer, the shorer lens is better (either what I have or the 35mm I wish I had).
serene scrapper

Jenn, I really like that photo of your guy - has some cool mood to it!  Well done!
laticiaragle

Wow...you gals have been busy! Roe, I absolutely love the basketball net shot! It's so creative, great angle sweetie!

Also, Roe to comment on your question....Marlene had great advice in most cases you would need a different lens however, you may try using manual focus when you are that close, it allows you to determine your focal point....this doesn't always work but it may help until you get a different lens.....
GrammyScraps

I'd have to say yes..when it counts. I did it in a jury room once.
OK...I have no idea how this got in this topic??? Just ignore me please.
lisa9er

lovin these shots!! I did get a couple the other day, will load soon!!

serene scrapper

Ok, girls, any more?  One more day ...
