I have a bunch of photos from when I was a little tyke that I've been working with as I want to scrap these, but not use the originals! I scanned them into Photoshop Elements and have been adjusting all those things you adjust (color cast, color for skin, contrast, levels, sharpening, noise reduction, etc).
Of course they aren't turning out as good as I thought they would. Maybe I'm missing something or maybe because they are from 1972! But they do look better!
Anyways, I'm ready to start printing and I'd like to enlarge some, but I find that I can't! Help! the originals are 3x3 and when I try to make them larger, they are super-super grainy and unusable. What can I do?

Would you send me one ( you can just attach it here with the add image to post below) and I will see what I can figure out for you? I may not help any but I'd like to give it a shot. Mine I have done have come out pretty good, but perhaps there's a factor I don't know about ....
nathan's momma
my mom took a pic of nathan once using the least amount of pixels. when i went to print it out using my photo program, the biggest size i could get to where it looked good was less than a wallet size.
BUT
when i went to print it at work from my email, i was able to print a full 8x10 with great clarity. i'll try to figure it out when i get back to work and see if i can remember what i did.
UNLESS
you get your answer before i figure it out.
good luck!

Ok, Kari, I will play with it later on today.. By the way, did you scan it at the highest possible resolution? I see it's only 317 kb so not sure what can be done, but I will shoot my best shot!
mazuka
yes

Well, I can see the problem, for sure. I dont' know how to make it better. But here is what I did:
I can't make it better for printing, sorry. But thought I would try for you!

okay. Here is my edited version.
This is just one photo....do you know if there is something I can do differently with scanning, or anything to be able to print them bigger than 3x3?

I don't know, Kari. I am going to get one of my photos and scan and see what I can do, but I just don't know.

Ok, I just scanned a very old photo, lots older than the 70's. I chose a color one. I chose in my options "photo to be printed at 300 dpi". I have a Lexmark all in one printer. Nothing great.
It's not too good. It saved it at only 197kb. So it's not going to be great.
I will play with it and come back in a few.
Ok, here it is, a bit changed and cropped. It is still low in kb, 307 now.
You could have your photo printed at one more level higher than the company says (assuming you are sending it out for printing), and see how that is. I have had some printed at a level higher and they have been better than expected.
I had an after thought: why not take a photo of your photo? So I tried that. Here is the result:
With this edited result:
With the photo, you may be able to get a better print. Of course, you have to have nice clear in focus photo to start with.
Another suggestion: Put this in your google thingy:
how to get high resolution on a scanned photo and see what comes up. I just did and got several things but ran out of time to deal with them.
