A Real GRIPE with PSE

I know not many have explored playing with making your own papers and stuff but I kept noticing a BIG BIG change in color from what I created in PSE and how it looks on the web by color.
My recent kit Colors of Devin are not at all the true colors I used in PSE.
When I view it in PSE it always shows true, but on any other viewer...web, Word, infraview, etc; it comes out dull and washed looking.

This is frustrating me to no end! If I create something, I want it to show the actual colors I chose!
If you are wondering what I am talking about...go to PSE and make a blank canvas. Color fill it with a bright or bold color.
Go to save for web and look at the difference between what is on your workspace and what it shows will be seen on the web.
No, I never save my papers in save for web. I always save them .jpg with 300 resolutions at full color content. Using the save for web just shows you what is going to be actually seen on the web.  It's SHOCKING!

I am soooo ticked!  I think PSE is not for designing. I think it is for editing photos and creating with kits already made. I haven't tried comparing an already made kit in the save for web tab to see.
Talk about taking the wind out of your sails!
I think I will be shopping for a designer program soon.

Bummer, Sharon....for as good as you are in designing, you should have the best.....

I never did anything with PSP for web only saved as jpg and posted. So, can't tell ya how that works...

wow, interesting.  When I get a minute, I will check out what you mean.  I do notice my photos, when printed, are a bit different, too, but nothing drastic. Actually look better printed than online.

I know you are comparing between web and the program, but I also wonder what difference your monitor makes in viewing colors?  That makes a third variable.  So what IS the color, really?

Now I am going to go get Peter's book, the only thing I have created and had printed, and see how different/or same the colors look.

When I get a minute

will tell you what my result is .....

Very interesting observation.

Would you stay with PS?  Like Creative Suite or something like that?

I think I am going to ask in some digi forums and see if anyone knows about this before I invest in a more costly program.
I do hope your book comes out true to color Marlene.
I thought at first it was my monitor..but if so it would stand to reason I would see consistant or NOT quite such a vast difference in color.
This just erks me!

I just did some research on the web and sure enough, some web designers are saying the same thing. PSE is not really for web designing due to the color washing when saved. Since companies have specific colors in their logos and those colors need to be true on the web. They won't use PSE for web design.

I posted this gripe onm a couple digi boards and a lady took a screen shot to show what I am talking about...
LOOK at this difference!

on the left..the original color she chose...the right the one PSE turned it to.
Now you see why I am so ticked?
I can't believe I am the only one designing who noticed this!

Interesting.  so how does this happen?  Like you choose the color, then save, then it changes it?  Is that what you are saying?
Imagine_it

Yes, Marlene, exactly. You begin working on a clean canvas, choose your colors and then when you save it....PSE drops some hues and highlights for some reason.
I have just left big shock waves on those digi boards over this.
PSE is great for photos and already saved elements but not for clean slate designing.

Interesting.  I keep saying that, don't I?  My son has a copy of Creative Suite I wish I could have!  For his summer job as videographer.  I think that's kinda pricey, and surely I'd have to be very serious about creating, wouldn't I?  I guess I will stick with pse.

So here's my question:  Do the colors remain true when using other's creations, when editing photos, etc?  They seem fine to me - I have only had the one book printed, and the colors are the same as I see on screen.

I am so sorry you are experiencing this, Sharon!  I can imagine how very frustrating this is to you!

I just looked up cs3 and cs2.  Sounds like it would be fine to get 2, for about $400 less.  Man, this is expensive!!!  I skimmed a few reviews on amazon to form my hasty opinion!

I hope you don't mind a newbie jumping in here!  Make sure you're creating in RGB and not CMYK  The color profile you're using may also be off.  I'll have to check mine the next time I open PS

No problem jumping in, esp if you know something we don't!  What is cmyk?
amert

CMYK is the color professional printers use,
RGB is what everything else uses, which could be why those two papers look different but in the same color field.

So is there a way to choose this  while using the program?  I have pse6 but still learning.  Thanks!
amert

Ack, PSE, I thought you said ps 6.0!!  I don't think PSE uses CMKY.
I'm wondering what color profile you're using, you may want to check out this link:

You're right, I checked and it's only the other ....

I will look at the link, tho I am not the person who's having this problem and I don't really care at this point.  But if I do (I am fussy about color), I will want to know what I need to know!

Thanks!
